c and social supports within and outside of traditional school hours.
imageTraditional Extended Day
Youth Guidance operates a number of traditional out-of-school enrichment programs in Chicago which incorporate the Comer philosophy of system change and the Community Schools model, creating a unique approach to the traditional definition of afterschool.

Extended Day Enrichment
Youth Guidance’s Extended Day Enrichment programs are aligned with the school day, incorporate community initiatives and resources, include a parent engagement component, access necessary counseling, and have an intense focus on self sustainability. Each enrichment menu is tailored to meet the specific needs of the school, student, and parent community.

Youth Guidance’s Community & After School Programs works collaboratively with Counseling & Prevention to offer as many mental, social-emotional, and behavioral health alternatives as are available. Youth Guidance staff is trained to support the implementation of the RTI Behavioral Intervention model and other Proactive Behavior Supports.

During the 2011-12 school year, Youth Guidance’s Community & After-School Programs will serve 4,000 students in 26 Chicago Public and charter schools.

Parent & Family Engagement
Youth Guidance’s Parent & Family Egagement Services are designed to equip parent leaders with specific skills that enhance their ability to support their children's educational experience and improve school outcomes. Parents develop the capacity to support positive adult-student relationships and the creation of a safe, child-centered school climate. Ultimately, Parent & Family Engagement Services grow the capacity of schools in order to support on-going positive home-school connection, and be improved resources to the community.

Parent & Family Engagement Services provide professional development and on-site coaching to deepen the meaningful engagement of parents in school. Services are aligned with the National Standards for Family-School Partnerships, and are based on over 20 years of Youth Guidance's parent engagement work in Chicago's Public Schools.
