School-Based Counseling Youth Guidance's School-Based Counseling program provides students with individual, group, and/or family counseling to address issues such as adjusting to a new school environment, improving behavior and interpersonal relations, coping with grief or loss, handling environmental stress (family, school, neighborhood) and regulating emotion. During the 2011-12 school year, Youth Guidance’s School-Based Counseling program will serve 2,000 students in 20 Chicago Public Schools.
Project S.T.R.I.V.E. — a partnership between Youth Guidance, Chicago Public Schools, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services that successfully — helps wards of the State transition to adulthood and lead productive lives. During the 2011-12 school year, Project S.T.R.I.V.E. will serve 250 students.
B.A.M. (Becoming a Man™) - Sports Edition Youth Guidance’s B.A.M. (Becoming A Man™) - Sports Edition is a school-based counseling, mentoring, violence prevention and educational enrichment program that promotes social, emotional and behavioral competencies in at-risk male youth. B.A.M – Sports Edition’s curriculum addresses six core values: integrity, accountability, self-determination, positive anger expression, visionary goal-setting and respect for women, as each value relates to personal and academic success. During the 2011-12 school year, B.A.M. — Sports Edition will serve 500 students in 13 Chicago Public Schools.
Parent & Family Engagement Youth Guidance’s Parent & Family Egagement Services are designed to equip parent leaders with specific skills that enhance their ability to support their children's educational experience and improve school outcomes. Parents develop the capacity to support positive adult-student relationships and the creation of a safe, child-centered school climate. Ultimately, Parent & Family Engagement Services grow the capacity of schools in order to support on-going positive home-school connection, and be improved resources to the community.
Parent & Family Engagement Services provide professional development and on-site coaching to deepen the meaningful engagement of parents in school. Services are aligned with the National Standards for Family-School Partnerships, and are based on over 20 years of Youth Guidance's parent engagement work in Chicago's Public Schools
