Youth Guidance is proud to acknowledge our BAM & WOW students for their great accomplishments. We visited Burnham Math & Science Academy’s graduation ceremony to get a glimpse of their achievements. Purple WOW stoles and black- and-white BAM cords were visible on the graduates, and their faces explained the emotions that accompanied this great event.
This year, Burnham Math & Science Academy had a different keynote speaker than usual, an alumni of the school: Kenziah O’Neal. The 19-year-old UIC student had much inspiration to give to the graduating class of 2017 saying, “This is not an accomplishment, it is a necessity.” As the crowd and graduates applauded, it was clear that the Burnham Class of 2017 understood that the difficult road ahead of them will have challenges. But, they are ready.
Parents also took the time to reflect on their children’s participation in WOW at the graduation ceremony. Keeping a connection with the parents is just as valuable as making sure that a child reaches his or her highest potential. “I appreciated that Youth Guidance backs me up on the things that I may be trying to teach my child,” said one mother. “The group setting enhances their mind. Not just for themselves, but for their peers as well.”
We would like to congratulate Burnham’s WOW and BAM Class of 2017, and all of the BAM and WOW graduates we’ve had this year. If you like to donate to our programs please click here.
