Celebrating Young Women

blog20 blog18Working on Womanhood (W.O.W.) students, like these at the Bronzeville Scholastic Institute, are currently participating in special “naming ceremonies” that reflect upon their program experience, concepts of self-awareness, and personal strengths. These transformative rites of passage events serve as a celebration of every young woman’s potential and will take place across W.O.W. site schools through early 2015. Each girl is presented with a “personalized attribute” that reflects her unique spirit and mastery in an identified area since joining the program. Counselor Veronica Bohanan commented: “I thought long and hard about each girl’s attribute. They all have their own path and their own journey.”
