This summer, Youth Guidance teamed up with Get IN Chicago, one of our dedicated partners, to bring summer Youth Violence Prevention programs to four CPS sites. The program picked up engagement activities where the school year left off and also used social-emotional supports to ease the transition to high school for freshman and matriculating sophomores.
As a part of the One Summer Chicago Plus program, 80 youth completed 20 hours of part time work each week, as well as 5 hours of job readiness training, financial literacy and civic leadership development. The summer program proved to be a productive, skill-based experience for participants, particularly those who have had involvement in the justice system or were at risk of academic failure. The program worked to meet the particular needs of each school community to improve high school enrollment and support success later in life.
